WFMW: Birthday Edition
Wednesday, May 02, 2007
Today, Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer is hosting a themed Works for Me Wednesday - it's the Birthday Edition.
We have lots of birthdays. Every party we've had has been a family affair. The kids invite their friends, and we do activities for them, but aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends are invited as well. It's a celebration of the child's birth, after all, and everyone comes.
My best tip is to have the party at a local park with a playground. Parks are great for a lot of reasons:
1. You don't have to figure out how to fit 20 cars parked in front of your house
2. Kids can play on the playground if they are too young for the games, or as entertainment while you are setting up other games, food, etc.
3. There's usually a grill of some kind, and feeding kids at a cookput is cheap.
4. You don't have to clean your house before or after.
5. You don't have to worry about kids breaking anything during games or bothering the neighbors.
6. It can accommodate a lot of people.
7. It's way better for Pinata time - no more visions of shattered kitchen windows!
This post tells how I held a Birthday Tea Party for my 6 yo, for less than $40. It was the first "kids only/no family" party we've done.
