Secede?
Thursday, April 16, 2009
Recently, TX Gov. Rick Perry made some remarks supporting TX HCR 50, a bipartisan resolution asserting state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment.
Yes, he's one of those potential terrorists who favors state government over federal government.
The left leaning bloggers have their knickers in a twist, now. But why? As Cornell professor William A. Jacobson points out, Huffington Post, The Washington Post, and more have been very supportive of a state's right to secede for years... as long as that state was a blue one protesting Bush, of course.
They just don't get it. Things have come to a head - and fast- because the new administration is grabbing everything - and fast. Every day it's something new. Something never before seen in America. Every day it's another trillion dollars here or erosion of fundamental American rights there.
I don't think any of Texas' elected officials are seriously thinking of secession, not even Ron Paul. But I sure am glad I live in Texas while all of this stuff is going down!
As for me, I'm one of those potential terrorists, too, contributing to right wing chatter one blog post at a time.
Don't know what I'm talking about? A Department of Homeland Security Assessment, released a week before the Tax Payer Tea parties (over 200,000 attended nationwide), calling for an alert on right wing extremists. The document defined right wing extremists pretty broadly, including those who "perceive" that illegal immigration is taking jobs away from Americans; protest abortion; and returning veterans.
