Frustrated By Congress

I always heard politics was a dirty business, but I am admittedly ignorant as to how things work. However, I'm learning.

A couple of thoughts on things political...

1.
HR 1207 was introduced by Ron Paul, and requires that the Federal Reserve be audited and a report made public. Remember, they're the ones printing money, manipulating interest rates, and in charge of all that TARP and stimulus money.

Surely an audit is a good thing. Shouldn't we know where our money is going? He's got 58 co-sponsors. Unfortunately, HR 1207 is destined to die a slow death.

Why? It's been kicked to committee, in this case, the Financial Services Committee. The Chairman of a committee wields great power. He can let bills through or tie them up. He can allow a vote, or not.

Guess who's the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee? Barney Frank. It was a good try, I guess.

2.
Some thoughts that are Texas specific. Our governor, Rick Perry, has incurred the ire of the Obama administration by refusing stimulus funds. We are a Republican state - both of our senators are Rs, and several House members are, too.

The White House is making business decisions for GM and influencing their strategy to get out of debt. The Obama administration also doesn't like SUVs, favoring "green" alternatives. Obama has also said that plant closings are inevitable.

GM makes trucks and SUVs in TX, and nowhere else. It would be awfully convenient to shut down plants in a Republican state, get rid of SUVs, and stick it to Perry all at once. Just sayin'.

**** I wrote this almost 3 weeks ago, but forgot to post it until I was talking about HR1207 with my dentist today. Breaking news looks like I might be right...
